Agreement for the internationalization of medical science

President of the Medical Research Agency (MRA) Radosław Sierpiński MD, PhD and the Director of the Polish National Agency fot Academic Exchange (NAWA) Grażyna Żebrowska, PhD, signed a memorandum of cooperation to support the internationalization and promotion of science, innovation and Polish health care-oriented entities.

Internationalisation of Polish science is one of the greatest challenges today, being a driving force for the development of national research. The way to gradually increase the international visibility of national research results is to increase the intensity of collaboration between researchers from different institutions around the world.

International cooperation of the best research teams from Poland will introduce us to a new dimension of medical science. The joint Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange and Medical Research Agency grants will enable us to leverage the converging expertise of both entities to build the highest global standards in science. Polish research teams are not inferior to foreign ones and I am sure that thanks to our actions we will be able to maximize their potential. This is of particular importance in the development of biotechnology and clinical trials, which nowadays have a global dimension. This next area of inter-institutional cooperation, after the National Science Centre, will enable us to effectively support Polish scientists and multifaceted building of the position of Polish science on the international arena - emphasizes the President of MRA Radosław Sierpiński MD, PhD.

This agreement paves the way for strengthening activities that will enable researchers to carry out scientific projects in an international environment. This will allow to exchange experiences with the best scientists from all over the world and leading research centres. Polish researchers will not only get a chance to participate in international projects, but will also have the opportunity to build a Polish clinical research brand.

The initiated cooperation will allow to raise the level of conducted scientific research and increase its importance in the scientific community. These actions are an important step in building the Polish potential for international clinical research in such important areas as Oncology, rare diseases or innovative therapies. Combining the activities of major national institutions supporting the development of science and innovation will benefit not only scientists but also patients who will have access to the most modern therapies.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange is to create space for development of Polish science and support its dynamic growth, especially in the area of international cooperation. This agreement strengthens NAWA's presence in the health sciences. The health crisis, shows clearly the need to strengthen international cooperation in research. A perfect example is the cooperation in the development of a vaccine against COVID-19, which was created with the cooperation of specialists from many countries. We, for our part, want to do everything so that our scientific potential is used in the best possible way. And in the face of further breakthroughs, this type of research and projects could take place right here in our country - sums up NAWA Director Grażyna Żebrowska, PhD.
