The Lancet Regional Health summarizes ABM's five-year activity
The Medical Research Agency (ABM) in the spotlight of the global scientific spotlight with a publication in the prestigious journal The Lancet Regional Health - Europe. The article, titled “Medical Research Agency: 5 years of reshaping the clinical trials ecosystem in Poland,” summarizes the Agency's five-year activity, showing its impact on the development of clinical trials in Poland.
Five years of transformation of clinical research in Poland
Since its inception in 2019, ABM has become the focal point for clinical research in the country, signing as many as 315 agreements to fund research projects with a total value of more than PLN 4.3 billion. Thanks to the Agency's support, more than 51,000 patients - including 13,000 with rare conditions - have gained access to innovative therapies in areas such as oncology, cardiology and neurology.
The article highlights the importance of supporting pediatric research, which is often underfunded worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for increased representation of children in clinical research, something ABM is already doing. Particular attention has been paid to research in the area of rare diseases, which allows for better understanding and treatment of conditions often overlooked in other funding systems.
The authors also highlighted ABM's innovative initiatives, such as the creation of Clinical Trials Support Centers (CTSCs) and Regional Digital Medicine Centers (RDMCs). Thanks to them, Poland stands out in Europe as a leader in access to modern medical technologies and digital research.
Educational support and the future
The agency also implements strategic educational programs, such as those conducted in collaboration with Harvard Medical School, preparing the next generation of scientists to design and publish world-class research results.
International recognition
The publication in The Lancet is a recognition of Poland's role in the global clinical research ecosystem. As the authors note, ABM's support enables Polish scientists to actively participate in international research projects, making our country a key partner in medical innovation.
