MD Anderson and MRA - partners in clinical research

The letter of intent assumes establishing joint research and scientific programmes as well as undertaking joint clinical trials, with special attention paid to non-commercial trials. MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the most appreciated world centres for fighting cancers.

The Memorandum was signed by Radosław Sierpiński, MD, PhD, acting President of the Medical Research Agency, prof. George Wilding, Vice-President of MD Anderson and prof. Łukasz Szumowski, MD, PhD, the Minister of Health.

"Initiation of this cooperation means brand-new quality of oncological care in Poland. The Medical Research Agency has already been recruiting the most valued scientific partners and Poland will have the opportunity to use the knowledge and experience of the world's most renown scientists" - said the Minister of Health. He added that his intention is to increase the number of clinical trials conducted in Poland, and the signed memorandum is just another step towards reaching this goal. "I believe that the Medical Research Agency will be an active partner for international institutions that conduct clinical research".

"Cooperation with the newly created Medical Research Agency will allow us not only to develop joint scientific programmes, but it will also give all the Polish teaching hospitals the opportunity to participate in pivotal cancer studies, that are being conducted in out centres" - George Wilding concluded.

As said doctor Sierpiński, acting president of the Medical Research Agency, signing the letter of intent with MD Anderson provides us with a huge opportunity to develop our clinical studies in the area of oncology which, in turn, will result in improving the quality of oncological care in Poland.

MD Anderson Center

The University of Texas MD Anderson Center employs 21 thousand of people and its annual budget exceeded 5 billion dollars. MD Anderson admits almost 120 thousand cancer patients each year. The centre, which belongs to the University of Texas, is now the biggest cancer treatment centre in the United States - each year it conducts about 1000 clinical trials covering about 10 thousand patients.

In MD Anderson there is the Innovation Centre, whose goal is to eliminate cancer worldwide. The scientists develop state-of-the-art solutions in the area of new medical technologies, introduce new medications and diagnostic procedures to the market, design medical devices and information solutions that may help to care for cancer patients.
