The first Polish Centre of Support for Paediatric Clinical Research will start operating in the "Child Health Memorial Centre" Institute

The first facility in Poland dedicated to conducting clinical trials in children and adolescents was established at the Children's Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. Today was the grand opening of the Pediatric Clinical Research Support Center. The Paediatric Clinical Trials Support Centre was established as part of competitions announced by the Medical Research Agency for the establishment and development of Clinical Trials Support Centres.

- Today is a very important moment for Polish science. We are opening another of the sixteen Clinical Research Support Centres that will be established in Poland - said Adam Niedzielski, Minister of Health. - This will allow us to create the Polish Clinical Trials Network. So far in Poland, we have not fully used the existing potential in the area of clinical research, which is confirmed by a small number of non-commercial clinical trials. However, thanks to such investments, this will change.

The head of the Ministry of Health added that the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Medical Research Agency, has launched a project for the creation of specialised Clinical Research Support Centres in Poland, which will provide comprehensive and systemic support for both commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.

The value of the project co-financing is PLN 9,493,704. 64. Within these funds, modernisation and adaptation of one of the buildings was carried out) in accordance with the Clinical Research Support Centres Model Standards. The entire building has been adapted for people with reduced mobility.

The opening of the first Clinical Research Support Centre in Poland, especially in a paediatric centre such as the Children's Memorial Health Institute, is a special event, as it means that the paediatric patient population will have access to state-of-the-art treatment. In this way we inaugurate the creation of the Polish Clinical Trials Network, a Polish brand that already associates over a dozen centers across the country. I am convinced that in a place like the Paediatric Clinical Trials Support Centre the youngest patients will be able to take advantage of both commercial and non-commercial clinical trials in a high standard, comfort and the highest level of safety. I hope that we will be able to watch this centre develop and the Network become more and more efficient and cost-effective - President of the Medical Research Agency, Radosław Sierpiński, MD.

The creation of the Paediatric Clinical Trials Support Centre will lead to an increase in the number of clinical trials conducted in the paediatric population in Poland. The Centre will not only conduct clinical trials, but also initiate them so that they meet the needs of the paediatric population and make it possible to increase access to modern therapies.

Clinical trials make it possible to register new, effective and proven medicinal products. In some cases, they can become the best possible therapy, even life-saving. Patients during such examinations are under special care of physicians and laboratory diagnosticians. For researchers, it is an opportunity to gain essential knowledge and experience in their field of medicine. Besides, they have the opportunity to use the latest research tools.

From now on, you will be contributing to increasing the chances of small patients to have access to modern, innovative therapies, more frequent choice of research centres in our country by sponsors, as well as an increase in the number of conducted studies.

You have an excellent staff, treating often extremely difficult cases. I am speaking from experience, because Director Marek Migdał is Poland's delegate in the work of the Paediatric Committee of the European Medicines Agency

I am convinced that your activity will, on the one hand, provide comfort to patients and, on the other hand, will allow us to develop a very high standard of research - said Dr Grzegorz Cessak, President of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products.

We are proud that it is in our Institute, where the sickest children from all over the country are treated, that the first Clinical Research Support Center was established. The possibility of searching for alternative methods of treatment on the basis of reliable data obtained through clinical trials is extremely important said Marek Migdał, MD, director of the Institute "Child Health Memorial Centre".

The project involved the creation of a space of nearly 700 m2 dedicated to all activities within the scope of clinical research.
