Clinical Research Support Centre to be established at the Medical University of Lublin
The Medical University of Lublin received nearly PLN 9. 5 million from the Medical Research Agency for the creation of the Clinical Research Support Centre. The Centre will become a part of the Polish Clinical Trials Network, which aims to increase access to innovative therapies for patients.
The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, participated on Friday in the ceremonial transfer of funds to the Medical University of Lublin for the establishment of the Clinical Research Support Centre.
"This is a wildly innovative project where we're catching up to attract capital that is looking for places to do large-scale clinical trials," he pointed out.
The Minister stressed that this would result in a real financial boost for the healthcare system on the one hand, and provide patients with access to modern technologies on the other. "This is the essence of establishing this center in Lublin as one of 16 in the country," Niedzielski added.
So far the Medical Research Agency has allocated 150 million PLN for the creation of specialised Clinical Research Support Centres, of which 54 million PLN in the framework of the last competition. The Medical University of Lublin has received approximately PLN 9. 5 million for the creation of the Clinical Research Support Centre.
"I am convinced that this is an investment that will pay off many times over. And this is not only in terms of economy (. . . ), but above all it will also pay off from the point of view of patients who will benefit from modern solutions, technologies and clinical trials," noted Medical Research Agency President Radosław Sierpiński.
The Rector of the Medical University of Lublin Wojciech Załuska noted that the Clinical Research Support Centre will contribute to better conduct of commercial and non-commercial research. "It will give us a tool to (. . . ) to become part of the national oncology treatment program because many of the potential drugs being studied from the first to the fourth clinical phase will also be studied at this center," added Załuska.
The initiative to establish Clinical Trials Support Centres aims at better coordination of clinical trials in Poland, which is expected to contribute to increased access to modern, innovative therapies for patients, more frequent selection of research centres in Poland by sponsors and increase in the number of conducted trials. The task of the Polish Clinical Trials Network is also to ensure a uniform standard of clinical trial execution, high quality patient service and increase in the number of clinical trials. (PAP)
