The development of drugs based on nucleic acids (RNA and DNA) is currently one of the most promising trends in modern biotechnology.

The competition is crucial from the point of view of state epidemiological safety and prevention of infectious diseases. At the same time, it responds to the current needs of the health system, related to the fight against SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The scope of activities covered by the competition is to develop an innovative solution in the field of medicinal products to improve the epidemiological safety of Poland, which can be implemented in own business. Funding can be obtained for basic research, industrial research, development work and consultancy services.

The activities undertaken within the framework of the Project should assume elaborating and leading to at least 1st phase of clinical trials of Polish mRNA vaccine, and in the long run - commercialization of the results of these works, as well as reaching production capacity of mRNA vaccines on the territory of the Republic of Poland (by creating a pilot production line for R&D).

The expected outcome of the competition is to accelerate the development of innovative RNA-based vaccines and therapies in Poland and make them available to patients.

The call is addressed to enterprises (Single Entity Applicants) and enterprises (Consortium Leaders), acting in consortium with such entities as:

• uczelnie wyższe;
• federacje podmiotów systemu szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki;
• PAN;
• instytuty naukowe PAN;  
• instytuty badawcze; międzynarodowe instytuty naukowe;
• podmioty prowadzące głównie działalność naukową w sposób samodzielny i ciągły;
• Centrum Medycznego Kształcenia Podyplomowego;
• podmioty lecznicze dla których podmiotem tworzącym jest publiczna uczelnia medyczna albo uczelnia prowadząca działalność dydaktyczną i badawczą w dziedzinie nauk medycznych albo Centrum Medyczne Kształcenia Podyplomowego;
• przedsiębiorcy mający status centrum badawczo-rozwojowego;
• podmioty prowadzące badania naukowe i prace rozwojowe – jednostki organizacyjne posiadające osobowość prawną i siedzibę na terytorium Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej lub przedsiębiorcy prowadzący działalność w innej formie organizacyjnej niż podmioty lecznicze, dla których podmiotem tworzącym jest publiczna uczelnia medyczna albo uczelnia prowadząca działalność dydaktyczną i badawczą w dziedzinie nauk medycznych.

Applicants must carry out scientific research and development works as part of their activity, have legal personality and headquarters on the territory of the Republic of Poland.

Financial resources allocated to the competition: PLN 300 million
